Dear Friends,
Many of you have
expressed concern for the safety and whereabouts of our fellow alumni
who are currently enrolled at Virginia Tech. I share in your concern for
their safety and well-being and encourage you to reach out to your
friends in this difficult time, if nothing more than just to say, "hi."
In a time of tragedy, it is often difficult to express ones feelings,
especially with words. The simple act of reaching out to a friend is a
powerful demonstration of your commitment to their friendship, and can
go quite a long way.
The Association has
received many requests for information regarding our specific group of
alumni. I encourage you to leverage the Association's message board and
to utilize Virginia Tech's web site to obtain factual up-to-date
information. They have a special section, as well as special hotlines
set up to provide news and information regarding counseling, classes,
memorials and a special support fund.
www.vt.edu/tragedy. The hotlines will not provide information
regarding students, however.
I also encourage you to
share your thoughts and feelings in a constructive manner; and should
you want to contact me directly, feel free to do so at:
president@tjhsstalumni.org.
TJHSST Principal, Dr.
Evan Glazer has requested that I forward you a brief message on behalf
of his office and the school. I have included his message below.
Sincerely,
Dan Soschin President
TJHSST Alumni Association
Dear TJ Alumni,
Monday’s events at the
Virginia Tech campus represent a tragedy of monumental proportions. Many
former TJ students currently attend that university. It is possible that
people with whom you are acquainted have been affected. We offer our
condolences to those who have lost loved ones and hope that those who
have been injured will recover.
Our student body has
been writing notes to the campus and we will have a ‘maroon and orange
effect day’ on Friday in support of Virginia Tech and those who have
been affected. You should also see a change to our website.
Virginia Tech has
cancelled classes for the remainder of the week and many students are
returning home. We would like to extend an open invitation to any TJ
alumni to return to TJ and talk with counselors and teachers. You are
still part of our family.
Our thoughts are with
you.
Sincerely,
Evan Glazer
TJHSST Principal
