Thomas Jefferson High School
for Science & Technology
Alumni Association
Remarks by Bryan Oh '99
TJAA Secretary
TJHSST Commencement 2005
"Good evening, Class of
2005. My name is Bryan Oh and I am here on behalf of the Thomas Jefferson
Alumni Association to welcome you as our newest members. Understand that
leaving Jefferson need not end the benefits of your hard work. Connections
to Jefferson can be of great support and a source of perspective through
college and beyond. Jefferson is welcoming to past students and I know it
means a great deal to me to be able to drop by and catch up with the likes
of Mr. Slivosky, Mr. Fujito, and of course, the wonderful Ms. Groves.
"But being an alum of
Jefferson is about more than coming back to visit, for you are now part of
an elite academic, social, and professional community which stretches coast
to coast, spanning virtually all industries and interests. You represent the
sixteenth class to complete a full four years at Jefferson and our
association membership now totals over 7000.
"As I’m sure you know,
Jefferson alums are a rare seed. Since this time last year, we saw a pair of
alums publish a wildly successful mystery novel, set in my alma-mater,
Princeton University. We saw a class of ’94 alum compete on the second
season of the Apprentice. And we even had a class of ’99 alum who was just a
few nights ago nominated by the Jimmy Kimmel Show as “America’s Laziest
Person”. A tough act to follow, I know, but I have no doubt you’ll each
contribute to our alumni community in your own special way.
"T-J-H-S-S-T-alumni.org is
a launching point for bringing together this incredibly diverse group of
thinkers and doers. I encourage you to visit often to read alumni news,
contribute your own experiences, and utilize the alumni directory which has
proven to be an invaluable tool for finding summer jobs or simply looking up
lost acquaintances.
"Well, before you can begin
to enjoy these and other fruits of your labor, we must get you on your way.
You’ve got an All Night Graduation Party to attend and I’ve got a party of
my own to go to. So congratulations, Class of 2005, you made it. The alumni
association welcomes you with open arms."
